With summer coming to a close, the kids are heading back to school and the vacations are all but over. Hopefully everyone had a relaxing, somewhat stress-free summer and got in at least one trip to the beach (without getting sunburnt too badly). Unfortunately, it's that time of year when we must refocus our efforts and plunge back into the minutiae of everyday life. With that in mind, tax reform should be on the forefront of policy issues in the upcoming year -- especially estate tax reform. As it is written into federal law, the enforcement of estate tax makes one's death a taxable event, often pressuring grieving family members to dismantle their recently deceased relatives' estate in order to pay the exorbitant tax rate of 40%. There is clearly a serious financial, as well as moral, problem with this type of system. Making death a taxable event is morally blameworthy and therefore the current system of estate taxation must be changed. This type of change may be done along the ASSET parameters for estate tax simplification. This would not eliminate the estate tax per se, but instead would allow one to essentially make an annual down-payment on their estate tax, thereby removing death as a taxable event. To learn more about the ASSET Solution to estate tax reform and to get more involved in the upcoming year visit our website and check us out on social media! Summer's over... time to get back into the swing of things with ASSET!
